Nature photography is about being ready for the shot and that means knowing your shutter speed, ISO and f-stop.
It means knowing when to adjust for light changes and when wildlife is in dappled light or horrifically bright light. A photographer needs to understand how to compose the image on the spot, how to track the animal properly (knowing behaviors or at least sensing their possible reactions to their surroundings), and how to maximize the short window of time available.
