Cemetery of the Caimans

On the river, the night’s sky
is a black vestment. The moon
is a new-faced saint. Eyes pulse
the dark margins, hundreds
of thousands of live caiman
rise miraculously from the depths.

Landscapes

Landscapes are intrinsic for many of my wildlife images; however, in many locations, they are the dominant feature. When traveling to Brazil, Chile, and Iceland, the geography and land forms demand attention since it serves as the backdrop for all the drama.

I found myself doing my best photographic work in the late evening (10-11 p.m.) and super early morning (4 a.m.) while in Iceland since in the summer there is 24 hours of light.

Around 7 a.m. was the best light in Brazil and Chile for landscapes but often the best sightings of jaguars and pumas were recorded in mid-morning. With that in mind, I often have my first camera rigged up for landscapes (wide angle generally) and my other camera (Sony a7riv) with my 200-600 mm Sony telephoto.
